At Mango Rosa the environment is one of our major design components. We have protected riparian areas; we have planted and reforested the property, built a monkey crossing and planned Mango Rosa around the existing environment. We have made it easy for you to contribute to sustainable development. By following some simple guidelines at Mango Rosa you can help us decrease our ecological footprint.
Climate Change:
Use as little power as possible. At Mango Rosa we meter the power we use on every house. Power is expensive and in Nicaragua 80% comes from the burning of fossil fuels which is a contributing factor to climate change. Therefore, we charge for the power you use. The idea is to be comfortable but at the same time not be wasteful. Therefore, we offer an incentive for you to remember to turn off your lights and most importantly your AC units. So conserve and turn AC’s off when you head to the beach for the day.
Garbage Reduction:
This is a no brainer, create as little garbage as possible because in Nicaragua they burn it contributing to air pollution and more green house gases. Use reusable containers for food and put aluminum cans and plastic water bottles in the recycling bins. Plastic water bottles can be refilled with the larger lesser expensive bottles and put back in the fridge. Keep what you throw away to a mínimum and buy fresh fruits and vegetables without packaging.
Water Conservation:
We do not wash sheets everyday unless you ask. So please let us know when you need them cleaned. Don’t waste water-it is a precious resource (six months per year with zero rainfall).
Waste Management:
At Mango Rosa we have an anaerobic bacterium driven sewer system. Microorganisms clean the water you dirty before we return it to the soil. Our microbes do not like and are not able to eat paper and plastics.
SO PLEASE DO NOT PUT ANY PAPER OR PLASTICS INTO THE TOILET.
Use the waste basket in your bathroom
